Stress Doesn’t Discriminate: How A Niche ADHD Tool Became Mainstream Mental Armor

GlobalStress Doesn’t Discriminate: How A Niche ADHD Tool Became Mainstream Mental Armor

Mental health challenges touch everyone, regardless of background, age, or occupation. This universal truth drove Kody Lukens to transform his personal coping mechanism into Stimara, a company now generating over $2 million annually, helping tens of thousands manage stress, anxiety, and focus challenges. What began as a solution for his own ADHD has evolved into a global mental health tool embraced by professionals in boardrooms and students in classrooms alike.

Stimara’s magnetic fidget toys, called Stimagz, represent more than just another distraction. They embody a scientifically backed approach to redirecting nervous energy into productive focus. With over 41,000 customers worldwide and 133 percent growth from 2023 to 2024, Stimara has silently disrupted how we think about fidgeting not as a childish habit but as legitimate mental armor against life’s constant pressures.

From Concept to Global Brand

Lukens’ entrepreneurial journey began with a concept. As a child, he had magnetic building toys that unintentionally became his first focus tools, but they deteriorated quickly and were not designed for adults. When diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, he discovered a severe lack of resources tailored for adults with ADHD.

“The ADHD market, especially for adults, is criminally underserved,” Lukens said. “There aren’t high-quality products being made for that demographic.”

With determination, Lukens created countless prototypes before finalizing the design for Stimagz. In October 2022, his first Kickstarter campaign generated over $87,000 from 1,700+ backers, officially launching Stimara. By 2023, the company generated approximately $750,000 in revenue, and their second Kickstarter campaign for Stimagz Series II raised $500,000+ from 6,900+ backers, surpassing half a million dollars as noted in user-provided milestones.

The journey was not easy. Lukens worked 80-hour weeks while finishing college, taking a massive financial gamble by investing everything into initial manufacturing runs. “By launch day, I was a shell of a human. It was unsustainable. But it worked. The moment Kickstarter was funded, I broke down and started crying. I had done it. That moment changed my life,” Lukens shared.

Science-Backed Mental Health Support

Market research firms predict the global fidget toy market will reach $13 billion by 2031, driven by increasing mental health awareness and stress management needs. Stimara stands at the vanguard of this growth by creating products backed by scientific understanding of how physical movement affects cognitive function.

Unlike typical fidgets, Stimagz harnesses pattern-based fidgeting, increasing blood flow to brain parts responsible for calm, focus, and productivity. This physiological connection explains why 97 percent of surveyed Stimara customers report reduced stress and anxiety, 94 percent experience improved focus, and 86 percent say the products help them break bad habits.

The magnetic, long plastic pieces can be easily separated and reconnected in various orientations, providing satisfying tactile feedback that grounds users in the present moment. This sensory engagement helps redirect attention from stressful thoughts to physical sensations, a cornerstone technique in mindfulness practices.

Their best-selling product, the Quiet edition Series II Stimagz, addresses the primary complaint about traditional fidget tools – noise. These redesigned fidgets maintain all therapeutic benefits while remaining discreet enough for professional environments, classrooms, and public spaces.

Community-Centered Growth Strategy

Stimara’s rapid expansion stems partly from its community-first development philosophy. Unlike competitors who design products in isolation, Stimara actively involves its user base in product decisions, testing, and idea generation, creating passionate brand advocates.

The company maintains an active Discord community with over 1,000 members who provide direct feedback on product development. This collaboration creates uniquely effective tools while cementing customer loyalty. Despite competing with established brands like Speks and Ono and mass-market alternatives from platforms like Temu, Stimara’s premium positioning and community involvement have secured its market position.

Now serving customers across 50 countries, including Australia, Canada, Japan, South Africa, and Europe, Stimara has transcended its original niche. Their third Kickstarter campaign for “Stimagz Dubz” launched April 15, 2025, continuing their pattern of successful crowdfunding initiatives.
