Warner Bros. reshuffled part of its release calendar on Wednesday, pushing the animated DC feature “Dynamic Duo” and a new “Gremlins” film into the fall of 2028. The changes move two of the studio’s higher-profile projects out of earlier dates and reflect ongoing adjustments to a slate that stretches several years ahead. Both titles had held their earlier dates for months before the studio revised them.
“Dynamic Duo” shifted from June 30, 2028, to Sept. 22, 2028. Trade reports tied the move to a scheduling conflict with Paramount’s planned “Call of Duty” adaptation, which had staked out the summer window. Directed by Arthur Mintz from a script by Matthew Aldrich, the film uses the stop-motion style of Mintz’s animation house Swaybox and follows the origins of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, two characters who each carried the Robin mantle.
The untitled “Gremlins” film moved from Nov. 19, 2027, to Oct. 6, 2028, a delay of nearly a year. Chris Columbus, who wrote the 1984 original, is set to write and direct the revival, with a recent draft credited to Hannah Marks. Steven Spielberg is attached as an executive producer, and Amblin Entertainment is producing alongside 26th Street Pictures. Columbus returns to a franchise he helped launch more than four decades ago, and the new film has been in development at the studio for the past year.
The moves land while Warner Bros. works through its pending combination with Paramount, a deal that has drawn heavy attention across the industry. The calendar changes appear driven by competitive positioning rather than merger logistics, with the studio steering its titles clear of rival tentpoles rather than responding to the transaction itself. Studios routinely move dates to avoid opening against comparable films, and the summer of 2028 had grown crowded with large releases.
Release-date changes of this kind are routine as studios map out crowded years, and both films still have long runways before they reach theaters. Warner Bros. did not detail further adjustments tied to the shifts. For now, audiences waiting on the return of the mogwai and a fresh take on Batman’s sidekicks will wait until 2028. The revised dates give each project additional post-production time as well.
