Prime Video has ordered a sixth season of “Reacher,” handing the Alan Ritchson crime drama an early renewal before its fifth season has even arrived. Amazon MGM Studios confirmed the pickup on Sept. 29, announcing the order on social media while the show’s fourth season remained fresh with viewers. The renewal continues a pattern for the streamer, which has treated the series as one of its steadiest performers since it debuted in 2022. The adaptation of Lee Child’s novels now has a guaranteed run well into the back half of the decade.
The fourth season, based on Child’s novel “Gone Tomorrow,” was released Aug. 12 and drew 66 million viewers worldwide in its first 28 days on the platform, according to figures cited in the announcement. That performance placed it among the five most-watched seasons of any original series in Prime Video’s history. Across its run, “Reacher” has reached more than 200 million viewers globally, a total that has kept it near the top of the streamer’s slate of returning titles.
Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, praised Ritchson’s work in the title role, saying the actor’s performance “has captivated audiences around the world.” Ritchson plays Jack Reacher, a former military police officer who drifts between towns and repeatedly finds himself pulled into local trouble. Nick Santora, who has run the series since its first season, returns as showrunner and executive producer on the new order.
Season 5 is already in production in Toronto and will adapt “Make Me,” the 20th book in Child’s long-running series. Amanda Seyfried joins the cast as Michelle Chang, a former FBI agent who partners with Reacher in the novel. Jay Baruchel, Kevin Durand and Ciara Bravo are also set to appear in the season, though the studio has not said who will feature alongside Ritchson in the sixth.
The franchise has continued to expand beyond the flagship. A spinoff titled “Neagley,” centered on Reacher’s former Army colleague and played by Maria Sten, arrived on the platform earlier in September. With Season 5 filming and Season 6 now confirmed, Prime Video has lined up multiple years of stories built around a character it has leaned on since its early push into original drama. No premiere date has been set for either upcoming season.
