Zara Larsson is coming home, briefly. The Swedish pop star will play her only show in Sweden this year at Way Out West, the festival held in Gothenburg’s Slottsskogen park from 13 to 15 August, and demand for it has helped push the event close to a complete sellout.
Larsson takes the stage on the Thursday, and it is the single date on her current tour that lands on home soil. She arrives on a considerable wave of momentum, having recently performed for a crowd of more than 100,000 at Lollapalooza. The festival’s marketing manager, Filip Hiltmann, has been open about her pulling power, noting that she is “really having a cultural moment right now” and comparing the run she is on to the breakout year Charli XCX enjoyed in 2025.
That momentum has fed into ticket sales in a way the festival has not seen before. Both the Friday and Saturday have sold out entirely, with only a handful of Thursday tickets left as the event approached. According to Hiltmann, a near-total sellout on this scale “has never happened in the festival’s history before,” a notable milestone for one of the country’s best-known music weekends.
Larsson is far from the only draw. Gorillaz are set to close the festival on the Saturday, while Lykke Li makes what is billed as her only Swedish appearance of the year. The wider bill leans into the kind of curated, slightly left-of-centre programming Way Out West is known for, with the indie band Geese, the Norwegian duo Smerz and the American artist Dijon, who plays Sweden for the first time, all on the schedule.
For Larsson, the booking is a neat piece of symbolism. She has spent much of the past year building an international profile through festival stages and big support slots abroad, and returning to play a single Swedish date, in front of a crowd that has effectively sold the place out to see her among others, underlines how far that profile has travelled. The fact that her name sits in the largest type on the poster, treated as a headline attraction rather than just another slot, says as much about the moment she is having as any streaming figure could.
Whether the near-sellout becomes the new normal for Way Out West or a one-off tied to an unusually strong lineup, the 2026 edition has already made its mark before a single act has played. For the organisers, that is a problem worth having.
