Traditional album sales accounted for about 3,500 of the total, with a smaller share, around 500 units, coming from track-equivalent activity. The split reflects the streaming-led pattern that now shapes most first-week chart debuts.
‘Westside Whimsy’ runs to 20 tracks and features a set of guest appearances from across hip-hop and R&B. Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Tyga and Larry June are among the artists credited on the record. The album continues the introspective, atmospheric style that Aiko has built her reputation on, and its arrival extended her presence on the charts well beyond her earlier releases.
The No. 1 debut surpasses the singer’s previous chart high. Her 2020 album ‘Chilombo’ had reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200, while her 2013 project ‘Sail Out’ peaked at No. 8. The gap between that earlier entry and her first chart-topper spans close to 13 years, a stretch during which she released music both as a solo artist and as part of collaborative projects.
The debut also carried a wider marker for the year in music. Reports described ‘Westside Whimsy’ as the first R&B album by a woman to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2026, adding a note of significance to the release beyond Aiko’s own history. The performance placed her at the top of a chart that has been dominated in recent months by pop and hip-hop releases, and confirmed the commercial reach of the album in its opening week.
