StyleLily James Chooses White Prada Velvet for The Liberation Screening in London

Lily James arrived at the London screening of The Liberation on Saturday 10 October in a white velvet sheath by Prada, cut with draped scarf sleeves that left her shoulders bare. The film, directed by Guy Nattiv, was shown at Vue West End as part of the 2026 BFI London Film Festival.

The actress kept the rest of the outfit restrained. Her jewellery came from Tiffany & Co., and the soft fall of the scarf sleeves gave the column dress most of its movement. White velvet is an unusual pick for an October evening, but the plush fabric suited the occasion and photographed cleanly against the festival backdrop. There were no heavy embellishments, bold prints or statement accessories competing for attention, so the cut and the colour did the work on their own. The look relied on proportion rather than decoration, which is harder to pull off than it appears.

James was one of several cast members to make an impression on the carpet. Carrie Coon chose Valentino and paired it with jewellery from Repossi, while Odessa Young wore a design by Alessandra Rich. Bella Ramsey also attended, and Nattiv joined his cast for photographs before the screening began. Between them, the group offered a mix of sharp tailoring and softer evening dressing, with James’s white column the brightest note on the line-up.

The Liberation centres on Rita, played by Coon, a bank teller, wife and mother who has kept the trauma of surviving the Holocaust hidden from the people around her. According to the festival synopsis, her life begins to change when she is drawn into the orbit of Ricki, the character played by James. The London screening gave festival audiences one of their first chances to see the two actresses share the screen in the drama.

James has already started talking about her next project. In a recent interview with Flaunt magazine, she said her next role is in a psychological horror film that will require her to be “as vulnerable and raw as possible”. That suggests a very different kind of performance from the one she brought to London, and a very different promotional wardrobe when the time comes. For this festival appearance, though, she settled on one of the simplest silhouettes of the season and let the velvet speak for itself. The festival continues in London this week, with more premieres and screenings still to come.
