Christopher Nolan’s latest epic, “The Odyssey,” roared past expectations in its opening weekend, pulling in the equivalent of more than 2.5 billion kronor at the global box office.
Marking a milestone in filmmaking, “The Odyssey” is the first feature ever shot entirely using IMAX cameras. The ambitious production follows Nolan’s Oscar-winning triumph “Oppenheimer,” released three years earlier.
The new film outperformed even “Oppenheimer” at launch, delivering the director’s strongest opening since “The Dark Knight Rises” back in 2012.
Running nearly three hours, the movie offers a sweeping retelling of the ancient tale of Odysseus, who—after enduring the decade-long Trojan War—faces another ten years of struggle to return home to the island of Ithaca, where his faithful wife Penelope awaits.
