GlobalUnited Kingdom Leads 2026 International Emmy Nominations

The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences unveiled the nominees for the 54th International Emmy Awards on Sept. 23, naming 64 contenders across 16 categories and 22 countries. The United Kingdom led all nations with a dozen nominations, according to the academy, extending Britain’s long run of success at the awards, which recognize television made outside the United States.

British programming figured prominently among the drama, comedy and documentary contenders. The period series “A Thousand Blows,” the comedy “Man vs Baby” and the documentary “Louis Theroux: The Settlers” all earned nominations. France’s culinary drama “Careme” and Argentina’s science-fiction hit “The Eternaut” also reached the drama field, alongside India’s “Real Kashmir Football Club,” reflecting a wide geographic spread. In comedy, Argentina’s “Division Palermo” returned with its second season and India’s “Vir Das: Fool Volume” joined the race, while Spain and Belgium added further entries across the ballot.

The acting categories drew talent from several continents. Ricardo Darin was nominated for the Argentine Netflix series “The Eternaut,” and Sheridan Smith earned a nod for the British drama “I Fought the Law.” Spain’s Javier Camara, Belgium’s Mona Mina Leon and Mexico’s Barbara Mori were also recognized in the performance races, a mix that underscored the ballot’s international reach.

“The International Emmy Awards are as competitive as ever, with an outstanding range of entries from around the world vying for a coveted Nomination,” said Bruce L. Paisner, president and chief executive of the academy. Argentina, India, Brazil and Spain were among the countries that picked up several nominations across the categories, signaling the depth of production beyond the traditional English-language markets.

The winners will be announced at the 54th International Emmy Awards Gala in New York on Nov. 23. The academy will also stage its International Emmy World Television Festival from Nov. 20 to 22, with panels and presentations for nominees ahead of the ceremony. The awards have become a closely watched barometer of the growing global appetite for non-English series and formats, and streaming platforms have raised the profile of many contenders by carrying them in multiple territories. Netflix and Apple TV+ both count several titles among this year’s nominees, a reflection of how far international commissioning has expanded.
