Charlie Brooker’s Crime Comedy Blackmere Sets Early 2027 Launch on Netflix

GlobalCharlie Brooker's Crime Comedy Blackmere Sets Early 2027 Launch on Netflix

Charlie Brooker’s new British series, Charlie Brooker’s Blackmere, will arrive on Netflix worldwide in early 2027. The crime comedy stars Paddy Considine as a detective on the trail of a serial killer, with Georgina Campbell, Lena Headey and Rory Kinnear also in the cast. Kinnear is the latest addition, and Netflix has now released the title along with first-look images. The show is a British production made for a global streaming audience, with filming split between two of England’s biggest cities.

Considine plays Detective John Blackmere, who leaves the rain-soaked northern city of Bleakford for London. He wants revenge for the death of his partner and needs to catch a ritualistic killer before the murderer runs out of victims. Netflix describes the show as “an absurd comedy disguised as an incredibly serious crime thriller” and adds a warning that it contains blood and frowning. When the project was first announced, Brooker joked that he had wanted to give a press quote since he was a child and begged viewers to watch it.

Brooker has been keen to separate the project from Black Mirror, the anthology that made his name at Netflix. He has called Blackmere the most detective show of all time and listed Columbo, Seven, The Bridge, The Killing and Knives Out among his reference points. He wrote the scripts with Ben Caudell, Jason Hazeley, Emer Kenny, Daniel Maier and Joel Morris, while Victoria Asare Archer contributed additional material.

The director is Al Campbell, a long-time Brooker collaborator who began on Screenwipe and went on to Newswipe and Gameswipe before moving into scripted television. His credits include Code 404, Two Weeks to Live, Inside No. 9, The Change, Dead Pixels and Bad Education, as well as the Netflix special Death to 2020, which Brooker produced. Brooker, Jessica Rhoades and Annabel Jones are executive producers, Mark Kinsella is co-executive producer and Richard Webb is the producer.

The series was first announced in 2025 without a name and was known during production as Untitled Charlie Brooker Project. Filming began in London in September 2025 before moving to Manchester the following month, and the final title was confirmed in September 2026. Netflix has not yet given a precise launch date, but the early 2027 window means the show will reach the service roughly a year and a half after cameras first rolled.
