Sony Moves Jim Caviezel Thriller Ghost Soldier to Veterans Day Weekend

FilmSony Moves Jim Caviezel Thriller Ghost Soldier to Veterans Day Weekend

Sony Pictures has moved its action thriller Ghost Soldier to Tuesday, November 11, 2026, a shift of five days from its earlier date of November 6. The change places the film’s release on Veterans Day, positioning the Jim Caviezel picture for the holiday. Columbia Pictures is handling distribution, and the studio confirmed the adjustment in mid September as it set its late year theatrical calendar.

Ghost Soldier follows Henry Fitzgerald, known as Fitz, a former Army Special Forces soldier who designs weapons for a military research program and lives off the grid in Wyoming. When an asset management company moves to seize ranch land and water rights in his community, hiring corrupt law enforcement and foreign operatives to force residents out, Fitzgerald draws on his training and equipment to defend his neighbors against the effort.

Caviezel leads the cast in the title role. He is joined by Olivia Thirlby, Garret Dillahunt, Shea Whigham, Beau Knapp and Jaina Lee Ortiz. The film carries a PG-13 rating for strong violence, some bloody images and language, a classification that keeps it open to a wider audience than a harder cut would allow over the holiday period. Coverage of the date change noted that the film marks a return to a major studio release for Caviezel, who in recent years has appeared largely in independently produced films.

William Eubank directed from a screenplay by Chris Papasadero. Eubank’s earlier features include the military thriller Land of Bad and the survival film Underwater. The project was announced in October 2025 under the title Archangel before being renamed ahead of release. Mandalay Pictures and Project X Entertainment are among the production companies behind the film, with David Zelon and William Sherak credited as producers.

The move to Veterans Day places Ghost Soldier in a release corridor that studios often use for films with military subjects, when interest in armed forces stories tends to rise. Sony did not detail the reasons for the shift when the new date was reported on September 14. The November slot keeps the film in the fourth quarter, a stretch of the calendar crowded with awards contenders and holiday releases competing for screens. A Tuesday opening tied to the holiday itself gives the studio an early read on turnout before the following weekend, when family audiences and moviegoers off work for the observance tend to fill theaters.
