As the dust settles around the revelation that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are returning to the United Kingdom after six years, children in tow and enrolled in school, new reporting has turned to what may lie ahead for Meghan, with suggestions that she is preparing to resume her acting career.
The Australian website News.com.au was first to report that Meghan had been offered a role in an unnamed production. The Hollywood Reporter subsequently alleged that she would join the third season of The Gentlemen, an action-comedy series from British director Guy Ritchie. The second season is set to premiere in early September, and a third has not yet been ordered.
The details remain unconfirmed. The Hollywood Reporter could not verify how large a role Meghan would take, nor how many episodes she might appear in, and neither the Duchess’s representatives nor Netflix responded to requests for comment. An actress before her royal life, Meghan has kept a lighter on-screen presence in recent years, focusing on producing and narration, including the documentary Heart of Invictus and the Disney Nature film Elephants. Her only major recent film work came when she shot scenes for the upcoming Amazon MGM comedy Close Personal Friend last year, suggesting a gradual return toward the industry she left behind.
The acting reports arrived alongside the bigger news, broken by The Telegraph, that Harry and Meghan, with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will move back to the UK. Whether the relocation is permanent or temporary remains known only to the couple, but the announcement, six years after they stepped back from royal duties and moved to California, sent ripples through the press.
Buckingham Palace stressed that the couple will remain private, non-working members of the Royal Family, ruling out any half-in, half-out arrangement. For Meghan, a return to acting would mark a clear step back toward a career and public identity of her own, independent of the institution she and Harry left, even as the family works out what their British homecoming will look like.
