Euphoria Creator Sam Levinson Signs Exclusive Overall Television Deal With Amazon MGM Studios

TVEuphoria Creator Sam Levinson Signs Exclusive Overall Television Deal With Amazon MGM Studios

Sam Levinson, the creator of HBO’s Euphoria, has signed an overall television deal with Amazon that will see him develop and produce series exclusively for Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. The agreement also covers his wife Ashley Levinson, his partner at the production company Tiny Goat Productions. It means the couple’s future television projects will go to Amazon rather than to HBO, where Levinson made his name.

Ashley Levinson was an executive producer on both of Sam Levinson’s HBO series, Euphoria and The Idol, and also executive produced Ti West’s X trilogy. The couple’s move to Amazon brings to an end a long run of television work at HBO, where Levinson created Euphoria and directed The Idol. The pair have worked together across film and television under the Tiny Goat banner, and the new agreement keeps that partnership intact as they move to a new home.

The deal arrives a few months after Euphoria came to a close with its third and final season. That season had been hit by production delays and by tragedies among the cast, including the death of Angus Cloud, which fuelled speculation that it would be the show’s last. Levinson confirmed the series was over only after the finale had aired. The final run was still a major draw for HBO, averaging more than 25 million viewers per episode, up 17 per cent on the second season.

Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, described Levinson as one of the most “daring and original voices in television today” and said the company was thrilled to welcome both him and Ashley. Levinson said Friedlander and his team had inspired him from their first conversation, and that he and his wife were grateful for the trust Amazon had placed in them.

Beyond television, Levinson has written and directed the feature films Assassination Nation and Malcolm & Marie. He won a Directors Guild of America Award in 2023 for his work on Euphoria, which was nominated for the Emmy for outstanding drama series in 2022. His arrival at Amazon comes as Prime Video builds out its slate of young adult programming, which recently added Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie. No specific projects under the new deal have been announced, and TheWrap’s report did not give the length of the agreement or any financial terms.
