MusicBeck Returns With 'Ride Lonesome,' His First Album of New Material Since 2019

Beck has released ‘Ride Lonesome,’ a new studio album that arrived on September 18, 2026 through Capitol Records. The record runs to 12 tracks and marks the musician’s first collection of new studio material since ‘Hyperspace’ in 2019, a gap of roughly seven years that stands as one of the longest between releases in his career. Billed as his fifteenth studio album, it continues a run of work stretching back to the mid-1990s and finds him returning to the quieter, more reflective register he has visited at several points across three decades of recording.

The album was produced by Beck and mixed by Nigel Godrich, who has worked on much of his catalog. Sessions took place at Room B inside United Studios in Hollywood, where Beck reunited with a group of musicians he has leaned on for years. That group includes Smokey Hormel, Joey Waronker, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Roger Joseph Manning Jr. and Jason Falkner, all of whom appeared on earlier records such as ‘Mutations’ in 1998, ‘Sea Change’ in 2002 and ‘Morning Phase’ in 2014. Beck has described the result as a sound shaped by decades of playing together.

According to accounts of the project, the album grew out of an orchestral idea Beck began developing after a performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall in April 2025. That starting point steered the writing toward a more expansive, string-inflected approach before the songs took their final shape with his regular band. The material draws comparisons to his more subdued earlier work rather than the brighter pop of records like ‘Colors.’

Beck rolled the album out across the spring and summer of 2026. The title track ‘Ride Lonesome’ arrived on April 20, followed by a version featuring country singer Sierra Ferrell on June 26. A second single, ‘In the Night,’ came on July 15, and a third, ‘Disappearing Act,’ followed on August 19. The staggered release gave listeners a sense of the album’s tone in the months leading up to its full arrival.

The album lands at a point where Beck has moved between major projects at a slower pace than in his earlier years. Reviews published around the release date framed ‘Ride Lonesome’ as a return to form that plays to his strengths as a songwriter, with the veteran collaborators lending the record a familiar texture. For an artist whose work has ranged widely across genres, the album represents a step back toward the melancholic, guitar-led songwriting that has run through parts of his output since the late 1990s.
